Auditory Prostheses and Perception Laboratory

Our Research

The Auditory Prostheses and Perception Laboratory studies auditory and speech perception by adults and children with normal hearing, hearing loss and cochlear implants. New studies focus on mechanisms underlying adult cochlear implant listeners’ and normally hearing listeners’ sensitivity to emotional prosody, particularly on aging effects on emotion perception. In children, new studies are focusing on the link between their perception and production of emotional prosody.

Our Research Facilities

The Auditory Prostheses and Perception Laboratory includes two large sound booths for conducting listening tests in quiet environments, and a space in which experiments involving direct electrical stimulation of the implanted device are conducted.

Our Studies

Studies for Adults with Normal Hearing or Cochlear Implants
The goal of our studies is to understand listeners' perception of signals transmitted by the cochlear implant by the brain.
Studies for School-Age Children with Normal Hearing or with Cochlear Implants
Our studies investigate children's ability to discriminate sounds and speech through the cochlear implant.
