Brain Health and HIV: Studying the Impact of Aging and Substance Use
Researchers at the Boys Town National Research Hospital Institute for Human Neuroscience are studying how aging, methamphetamine and cannabis use impact the brain in people with and without HIV. Your participation will help us learn more about the precise brain and biological mechanisms of these factors and their intersection, with the goal of developing better and more cost-effective diagnostic and treatment methods for associated diseases.
Who can participate?
Eligible participants:
- Age 19 years or older
- Have been diagnosed with HIV for 2+ years
- Currently taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) medications and have been for at least 3 months
- Currently use recreational substances such as cannabis and/or methamphetamine or little to no lifetime use of recreational substances
- Fluent in English
What will participants do?
Participants will complete 3 to 5 in-person visits each lasting around 3 to 4 hours.
Participants will:
- Complete mental testing
- Complete lifestyle questionnaires and substance use interview
- Undergo a non-invasive MEG scan and MRI scan
- Get a blood draw

Compensation
Research participants will receive between $420 and $770 for their participation.
